JAZZ

From beginning to advanced levels, students gain a knowledge in the creative and percussive movement that embodies jazz. Jazz allows students to gain a diverse and unique training in movement, flexibility, and styling. Jazz has a combination of ballet and modern techniques. This, along with its own technique and terminology, jazz can be performed in several styles that fit into its unique genre, such as Broadway, Latin Jazz, Classic Jazz, Contemporary, or Lyrical. Jazz is constantly evolving and adapting new styling, but students can easily transition when they receive a foundation of technical training offered at Valley Oak School of Dance. Jazz instruction may begin for students as young as 8. Students turning 8 within the dance year may register for this genre. Students who chose to enroll in jazz are strongly encouraged to study ballet. Class advancement/placement is always under the discretion of the instructor and director.
